The Administration for Children and Families (ACF) released the report on August 24, 2020. It presents data submitted by states to the ACF Adoption and Foster Care Analysis and Reporting System (AFCARS) by the end of fiscal year (FY) 2019. During FY 2019, the number of children in foster care dropped by 2.3%, from 435,000 at the end of FY 2018 to 424,000 at the end of FY 2019.
